Weighted Grade Calculator

Calculate your weighted average grade from assignments with different weights.

Formula
Weighted Avg = Sum(grade x weight) / Sum(weight)
What is This Tool?

A weighted grade average accounts for the different importance (weight) of each assignment or category. Unlike a simple average where all scores count equally, weighted averages give more influence to higher-weighted components like exams versus homework.

Formula
Weighted Average = (G1*W1 + G2*W2 + G3*W3 + ...) / (W1 + W2 + W3 + ...) Weights can be percentages, credits, or any proportional values.
Worked Examples

1. Three categories

Given: Homework: 90% (weight 30%), Midterm: 85% (weight 30%), Final: 78% (weight 40%)

Sum = 90x30 + 85x30 + 78x40

Sum = 2700 + 2550 + 3120 = 8370

Total weight = 30 + 30 + 40 = 100

Average = 8370/100 = 83.7%

Result: 83.7%

2. Unequal weights

Given: Quiz: 95% (weight 10%), Essay: 72% (weight 40%), Exam: 88% (weight 50%)

Sum = 95x10 + 72x40 + 88x50

Sum = 950 + 2880 + 4400 = 8230

Average = 8230/100 = 82.3%

Result: 82.3%
